The Kingdom of Silence

The Kingdom of Silence

Director: Róbert Lakatos

How important could a camera be to a ten-year-old child in the Land of Silence? Because thoughts are very difficult to express using sign language. This film is about experiences and emotions.

At the Feet of Castle Regéc...

"At the Feet of Castle Regéc..."

Director: Nóra Ruszkai

In summer 1999, a team of seven researchers from the Cultural and Visual Anthropology Department of Miskolc University embarked on a complex four-year culture research project in the small mountain village of Regéc. During the excavation of the castle, the usually insular, slightly suspicious locals started telling the stories of their grandparents and great grandparents. This film undertook to record in moving pictures the sayings connected to the castle and the fairy-tale-like stories that occupy such an important place in the cultural memory of the people of Regéc.

Special Merits

Ways

Ways

Director: Diana Groó

"In Hungary I'm a Jew, in Israel I'd rather be a Hungarian." Jews in their twenties and thirties talk about their identity, and the search for their roots.

And now I am here

"And now I am here"

Director: Attila Moharos

Levente Fülöp shares the fate of child slaves. His parents are alcoholics, his brothers sent him to the orphanage, but he is "free." Here peasant work is familiar and eternal, the ingrained movements and sayings archaically clean, the landscape immovably stunning. Time stands still, for our hero too, who has become a child slave in Europe at the end of the millennium.
